Joost Lijbaart is a dynamic Dutch drummer, percussionist, composer, improviser, and educator hailing from Amsterdam. With a career spanning over three decades, Lijbaart's musical journey began at the tender age of seven, eventually leading him to graduate from the Hilversum Conservatory in 1991. His versatile style draws from a wide range of influences, including jazz from the 1950s and 60s, pop, rock, and various musical traditions from around the world. Lijbaart has collaborated with numerous artists, notably pianist Wolfert Brederode, with whom he shares a musical connection that has endured for 25 years. He has also led several bands, including Under the Surface and Knock on the Wood. In 2014, Lijbaart faced a personal crisis that led him to explore new musical territories, culminating in his debut solo album, "Free," a testament to his growth and evolution as an artist. Beyond his performances, Lijbaart is also dedicated to education, sharing his passion and expertise with the next generation of musicians.
