About KMD

KMD, short for A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society, was a groundbreaking American hip hop trio that emerged during the golden age of the genre, active from 1988 to 1994. Comprised of brothers Daniel "Zev Love X" Dumile and the late Dingilizwe "DJ Subroc" Dumile, along with Onyx the Birthstone Kid, KMD is celebrated for their innovative sound and lyrical prowess. The group's journey began with the original member Jade 1, who left before they signed with Elektra Records. Despite facing tragedies and industry challenges, including the untimely death of DJ Subroc in 1993 and conflicts with their label, KMD left an indelible mark on East Coast hip hop with their unique style and thought-provoking lyrics. Their music continues to inspire and influence artists and fans alike, making them a pivotal part of hip hop history.
