Black Bastards - KMD

Album Description

KMD's sophomore album, Black Bastards, is a hip-hop masterpiece that was initially scheduled for release in 1994 but was delayed for six years due to its provocative cover art. The album, which was eventually released on 15 May 2000 through Metalface Records, showcases the group's growth and maturity, both sonically and lyrically. With its unique blend of youthful creativity and poignant social commentary, Black Bastards is a testament to KMD's innovative approach to hip-hop.

The album's 14 tracks, including 'Garbage Day #3', 'Get-U-Now', and 'It Sounded Like A Roc', demonstrate the group's ability to craft infectious beats and thought-provoking lyrics. KMD's music is a reflection of their experiences growing up as black individuals, and their songs often touch on themes of racism, social injustice, and personal struggle.

Despite being recorded in 1993, Black Bastards remains a relevant and influential album in the hip-hop genre. Its East Coast hip-hop sound, characterised by its jazzy samples and laid-back flow, has been widely praised by critics and fans alike. With a duration of 1 hour and 46 minutes, the album is a substantial and engaging listen that showcases KMD's talent and creativity.

Black Bastards is a must-listen for fans of hip-hop, particularly those who appreciate the genre's golden era. About KMD

KMD, an acronym for "Kausing Much Damage" and later "A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society," was a pioneering American hip hop trio that emerged from the golden age of hip hop in the late 1980s. Comprised of brothers Daniel "Zev Love X" Dumile and Dingilizwe "DJ Subroc" Dumile, along with Onyx the Birthstone Kid, KMD is celebrated for their innovative sound and lyrical prowess. The group's journey began in Long Beach, New York, where they crafted a unique blend of hip hop that stood out in the competitive landscape of the early 1990s. KMD's debut album, "Mr. Hood," released in 1991, showcased their distinctive style and laid the groundwork for Zev Love X's future success as the enigmatic MF DOOM. Despite their promising start, the group faced significant challenges, including the tragic death of DJ Subroc in 1993 and conflicts with their record label, Elektra Records, which ultimately led to their disbandment in 1994. KMD's legacy endures through their influential music and the enduring impact of Zev Love X, making them a beloved and enduring presence in the annals of hip hop history.
