About KMD
KMD, an acronym for "Kausing Much Damage" and later "A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society," was a pioneering American hip hop trio that emerged from the golden age of hip hop in the late 1980s. Comprised of brothers Daniel "Zev Love X" Dumile and Dingilizwe "DJ Subroc" Dumile, along with Onyx the Birthstone Kid, KMD is celebrated for their innovative sound and lyrical prowess. The group's journey began in Long Beach, New York, where they crafted a unique blend of hip hop that stood out in the competitive landscape of the early 1990s. KMD's debut album, "Mr. Hood," released in 1991, showcased their distinctive style and laid the groundwork for Zev Love X's future success as the enigmatic MF DOOM. Despite their promising start, the group faced significant challenges, including the tragic death of DJ Subroc in 1993 and conflicts with their record label, Elektra Records, which ultimately led to their disbandment in 1994. KMD's legacy endures through their influential music and the enduring impact of Zev Love X, making them a beloved and enduring presence in the annals of hip hop history.
