Unsuk Chin

Unsuk Chin is a renowned South Korean composer of contemporary classical music, currently residing in Berlin, Germany. Born in Seoul in 1961, Chin's musical journey began as a self-taught pianist, showcasing her innate talent from a young age. She honed her compositional skills at Seoul National University and later under the tutelage of the esteemed György Ligeti at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Chin's work is celebrated for its rich textures and vibrant colors, making her a standout figure in the world of modern classical music. Her compositions, such as the orchestral piece "Frontispiece" and her challenging Piano Etudes, have garnered international acclaim, including the prestigious 2004 Grawemeyer Award for her Violin Concerto.
