Sara Schoenbeck

Sara Schoenbeck is a pioneering American bassoonist known for her innovative approach to the instrument and her versatility across multiple genres. Hailing from California, Schoenbeck has dedicated herself to expanding the sonic possibilities of the bassoon in classical, contemporary, and experimental music. Her self-titled release features duets with nine artists, showcasing her prowess in free improvisation, original compositions, and interpretations of works by others. Schoenbeck's musical journey includes performances in jazz, hip hop, rock, and electronica, reflecting her commitment to exploring diverse musical landscapes. With a BFA from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, Schoenbeck is also an educator, currently serving on the faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Her work has been celebrated by publications like The Wire, which places her among the elite "bassoon pioneers" in contemporary music.
