Rudolf Firkusny

Rudolf Firkusny, born in Napajedla, Moravia, was a distinguished Czech-born, Moravian-American classical pianist renowned for his elegant performing style and warm, refined manner. His musical journey began at the tender age of five under the tutelage of the legendary Leoš Janáček. Firkusny's repertoire was vast and impressive, encompassing works by Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, and many others. However, he was particularly celebrated for his mastery of Dvořák's Piano Concerto, which he recorded multiple times and performed live on several occasions. Unlike many virtuosos, Firkusny was known for his cultivated musicianship and refined approach to the piano, making him a beloved figure in the classical music world. His influence extended beyond the stage, as he served on the faculty of the prestigious Juilliard School from 1965 until his passing in 1994.
