Rajan and Sajan Mishra, the legendary brothers of Indian classical music, are renowned exponents of the khyal style, hailing from the prestigious Banaras gharana. With a career spanning over five decades, they have captivated global audiences with their soulful renditions, earning them prestigious accolades such as the Padma Bhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Their unique form of sahgayan, transcending the traditional jugalbandi, reflects a profound musical confluence. Beyond khyal, their repertoire includes bhajan, tappa, tarana, and thumri, showcasing their versatility. Based in Rameshnagar, Delhi, they also nurture young talent through their music school, Gurukul Viram, nestled in the serene landscapes between Dehradun and Mussoorie. Despite the tragic loss of Rajan Mishra in 2021, Sajan Mishra continues to enchant audiences, often joined by his son Swaransh, ensuring the legacy of their melodious journey lives on.
