Mei Han

Mei Han is a trailblazing Chinese-Canadian guzheng virtuoso and scholar, renowned for her innovative approach to traditional Chinese music. Born into a military family in Beijing, Mei Han's journey began with a deep-rooted appreciation for ancient Chinese aesthetics, which she masterfully blends with contemporary Western influences. With a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of British Columbia and two MA degrees from UBC and the Chinese National Academy of Arts, Mei Han is not just a performer but also a respected researcher and educator. She has formed two notable ensembles, the Mei Han Art Ensemble and Red Chamber, and has recorded eight albums that showcase her unique musical vision. Mei Han's performances are a testament to her ability to propel the guzheng into the 21st century, making her one of the world's premier zheng artists. Her work is a captivating fusion of Japanese classical and exotica genres, offering a rich and immersive musical experience.
