Leonardo García-Alarcón

Leonardo García-Alarcón is a renowned Argentinian conductor and harpsichordist, celebrated for his deep expertise in baroque music. Born in La Plata in 1976, García-Alarcón's journey began with piano studies in Argentina before he moved to Europe in 1997 to pursue his passion at the Geneva Conservatory. Under the tutelage of Christiane Jaccottet, he honed his skills on the harpsichord and organ, eventually becoming an assistant to the esteemed conductor Gabriel Garrido. García-Alarcón founded the ensemble Cappella Mediterranea, with whom he has performed at prestigious festivals, including the Festival d'Ambronay. His repertoire spans Latin-American baroque music and 17th-century Italian opera, and he has conducted at major venues such as the Lyon Opera, Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Beyond his conducting, García-Alarcón is also a composer and has a significant operatic background, known for his innovative and audacious interpretations. In 2020, he took over the management of La Cité Bleue, a concert hall in Geneva, further cementing his influence in the classical music world. García-Alarcón's work is distinguished by his ability to breathe new life into historical music, making him a standout figure in the realm of early and baroque music.
