Deryck Cooke

Deryck Cooke was a British musician, musicologist, and broadcaster, renowned for his expertise on Gustav Mahler. Born into a working-class family in Leicester in 1919, Cooke's passion for music led him to become a prominent figure in the classical music scene. As the Music Presentation Editor at the BBC from 1965 to 1976, he shared his extensive knowledge with a wide audience. Cooke is also celebrated for his work on Mahler's unfinished 10th Symphony, which he completed, and his insightful book "The Language of Music," published in 1959. His contributions to musicology and broadcasting have left a lasting impact, making him a beloved figure among classical music enthusiasts.
