Chi-chi Nwanoku is a renowned British double bassist and a trailblazer in the world of classical music. Born in 1956, Nwanoku has carved out a distinguished career as a performer, educator, and advocate for diversity in music. She is celebrated for her exceptional skill on the double bass, an instrument that, at nearly half her size, she masterfully commands. Nwanoku's influence extends beyond her musical prowess; she is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Chineke! Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting and inspiring Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse musicians. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion has earned her numerous accolades, including a CBE for Services to Music and Diversity in 2022. As a Professor of Historical Double Bass Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Nwanoku continues to inspire the next generation of musicians, blending her passion for music with her dedication to fostering a more inclusive musical landscape.
