Butch Miles

Butch Miles, born Charles J. Thornton, Jr. on July 4, 1944, in Ironton, Ohio, was a celebrated American jazz drummer whose career spanned over five decades. Known for his dynamic and versatile drumming, Miles became a household name in the jazz world, particularly for his tenure with the Count Basie Orchestra, first from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1997 to 2007. His impressive resume includes collaborations with legendary artists such as Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra, among many others. Miles recorded over 100 albums and was a part of three Grammy-winning projects, earning numerous nominations for the European equivalent of the Grammy.
