Antonio Meneses, born in Recife, Brazil, in 1957, was a celebrated cellist whose career spanned both solo and chamber music realms. Beginning his cello studies at the tender age of ten, Meneses quickly rose to prominence, winning the first prize and gold medal at the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. His virtuosic playing and profound musicality made him one of the most acclaimed cellists of his generation. Meneses was also a dedicated educator, teaching at the Stauffer Academy from 2015 until his passing in 2024. He was a member of the renowned Beaux Arts Trio from 1998 to 2008, further cementing his legacy as a chamber musician of the highest caliber.
