Angelo Gilardino

Angelo Gilardino (1941–2022) was a renowned Italian composer, guitarist, and musicologist whose contributions to the world of classical guitar are immense. Born in Vercelli, Gilardino began his musical journey at a young age, studying guitar, cello, and composition in local music schools. His career as a performer spanned from 1958 to 1981, after which he dedicated himself fully to composition, teaching, and musicology.

Gilardino's compositions are celebrated for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. One of his most notable works is the "Studi di Virtuosità e Di Trascendenza," a series of 60 advanced etudes that challenge and inspire guitarists worldwide. His dedication to the art form extended beyond his own compositions; for over three decades, he collaborated with leading composers, reviewing and fingering their works for the classical guitar.

Recognized internationally, Gilardino received the prestigious "Golden Guitar" award from the Italian Guitar Congress three times—1997, 1998, and 2000—for his compositions, teaching, and scholarly contributions. His legacy as a composer, author, and scholar continues to influence and inspire musicians and enthusiasts alike.
