Veljo Tormis, born in Kuusalu, Estonia, in 1930, is celebrated as one of the most significant composers of the 20th century in his home country and a titan of contemporary choral music worldwide. His extensive catalog, exceeding 500 choral works, is predominantly a cappella and deeply rooted in the ancient Estonian folksong tradition, known as regilaulud.
