As a protégé of Johann Stamitz, Beck was a key figure in the second generation of the renowned Mannheim school, known for its innovative orchestral techniques. His 24 symphonies are celebrated for their originality and dramatic flair, featuring bold harmonies, flexible rhythms, and intricate part writing. Beck was a pioneer in integrating wind instruments into slow movements, enriching the symphonic texture and setting new standards for thematic development.
