About Nils Wogram
Nils Wogram is a renowned German jazz trombonist, composer, and bandleader known for his innovative approach to music. With a career spanning over two decades, Wogram has released more than 20 albums as a bandleader, each showcasing his unique blend of free jazz and traditional jazz elements. His music is characterized by a heavily vocalized approach to the trombone, incorporating growls, muting, and multiphonics that create a distinctive and captivating sound.
Born into a musical family, Wogram began his classical studies at the age of fifteen and quickly made a name for himself as a member of the National German Youth Big Band. He later moved to New York City to study at the New School, where he released his debut album "New York Conversations" in 1994. Since then, Wogram has continued to push the boundaries of jazz, forming his own bands and composing music that is exclusively performed by his ensembles.
In addition to his performing career, Wogram is also an accomplished educator, currently teaching at the conservatory in Lucerne, Switzerland. He founded his own record label, nwog-records, in 2010, further solidifying his influence in the jazz world. Whether performing at festivals like the British Trombone Festival or collaborating with other musicians, Nils Wogram's music is a testament to his visionary spirit and dedication to the art of jazz.
