About Roberta Flack
Roberta Flack, born Roberta Cleopatra Flack, was an iconic American singer and pianist whose emotive, genre-blending ballads spanned R&B, jazz, folk, and pop. Known for her intimate vocal style, Flack's music significantly contributed to the birth of the quiet storm radio format. Her commercial success was marked by several Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles, including "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Killing Me Softly with His Song," and "Feel Like Makin' Love." Flack made history by becoming the first artist to win the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in consecutive years. Her influence extended far beyond the 1970s, making her a beloved figure in the music industry. Flack passed away peacefully at her home on February 24, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a battle with ALS.
