About Vangelis

Vangelis, born Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, was a pioneering Greek composer renowned for his evocative and influential work in electronic, progressive, ambient, and orchestral music. Vangelis is perhaps best known for his Academy Award-winning score for the film 'Chariots of Fire' (1981), which features the iconic anthem that has become synonymous with slow-motion running scenes worldwide. His filmography also includes memorable scores for 'Blade Runner' (1982), 'Missing' (1982), and '1492: Conquest of Paradise' (1992), among others. Beyond his film work, Vangelis composed the score for the acclaimed PBS documentary series 'Cosmos: A Personal Voyage' by Carl Sagan. His extensive discography and collaborative efforts have solidified his status as one of the most innovative and influential figures in synthesiser composition.
