Born Melvin Howard Tormé in Chicago on September 13, 1925, his journey in the entertainment world began at a remarkably young age, becoming an adolescent idol by 18. Tormé's smooth, velvety voice made him a celebrated figure in the jazz and big band scenes, particularly renowned for his scat singing abilities. He co-wrote one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time, "The Christmas Song," with Bob Wells in 1944.
