Jonathan Rutherford is a multifaceted artist and academic whose work spans the realms of classical music composition and cultural studies. Born in 1953 in the quaint village of Churt, near Farnham, Surrey, Rutherford's musical journey began at the age of five with piano lessons, igniting a lifelong passion for composition. His classical works, such as 'Hum, The', 'The Killing of the Dragon, The', and 'Requiescat', reflect his deep commitment to the art form. Beyond his musical pursuits, Rutherford is renowned for his academic contributions, having served as a Professor of Cultural Studies at Middlesex University and as the editor of the influential journal Soundings. His intellectual prowess extends to political thought, where he is recognised as a leading thinker within the Blue Labour movement. Currently, Rutherford is a PhD candidate in Law at the University of Cambridge, further enriching his diverse body of work.
