Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the renowned violinist, presents her latest album "Exile," a captivating exploration of works by composers who were forced to flee their homelands. Released on January 24, 2025, under the Alpha Classics label, this chamber music album spans 13 tracks and a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes.
"Exile" features a diverse range of compositions, including arrangements by Jonathan Keren, Martin Merker, and Patricia Kopatchinskaja herself. The album opens with "Kugikly for Violin and Ukrainian and Russian Panpipes," setting the stage for a journey through pieces that reflect the experiences of displacement and cultural fusion. Notable works include the Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 1, arranged for cello, strings, and harpsichord, and the Concerto for Violin and Strings, showcasing Kopatchinskaja's virtuosic talent.
Collaborating with cellist Thomas Kaufmann and the Camerata Bern, conducted by Vital Julian Frey, Kopatchinskaja delivers standout performances that highlight the richness and depth of these lesser-known compositions. The album also includes traditional folk elements, such as the Moldovan folk song "Cucuşor cu pană sură," performed with fellow violinist Vlad Popescu.
"Exile" is not just a collection of music but a testament to the resilience and creativity of composers who navigated the challenges of exile. Through her interpretations, Patricia Kopatchinskaja brings to life the stories and emotions embedded in these works, offering a unique and enriching listening experience.
