About Georg Riedel
Georg Riedel (1934-2024) was a renowned Swedish double bass player and composer, born in Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia, to a Sudetenland German father and a Czech Jewish mother. Fleeing Nazi persecution in 1938, his family settled in Sweden, where Riedel would make an indelible mark on the music scene. Classically trained on violin, cello, and double bass, Riedel's career spanned jazz, classical, and children's music, earning him a place in the hearts of many. He is perhaps best known for his collaborations with legendary pianist Jan Johansson and for composing beloved children's songs based on Astrid Lindgren's stories, such as "Idas sommarvisa." Riedel's versatility and talent made him a sought-after musician in various ensembles and orchestras, contributing significantly to Sweden's rich musical tapestry. His work continues to inspire and entertain, reflecting a life dedicated to the art of music.
