Album Description
After over five decades of contemplation, Alvin Curran unveils "ARCHEOLOGY // ARCHEOLOGIA," a profound journey into his extensive archives, offering two meticulously crafted compositions that bridge the past and present. This album, set for release on December 6, 2024, via Room 40, is a testament to Curran's enduring legacy in the realms of avant-garde, free jazz, experimental, and minimalist music.
"ARCHEOLOGY // ARCHEOLOGIA" features two expansive tracks, "Le Serra" and "Othello By Night," each accompanied by excerpts, totaling an immersive 42 minutes. These pieces are not mere relics of the past but are thoughtfully reimagined, reflecting Curran's evolution as an artist. Drawing from environmental recordings and modular experiments from the 1970s, the same era that birthed iconic works like 'Under The Fig Tree' and 'Fiori Chiari, Fiori Oscuri,' Curran has meticulously woven these vintage sounds into a cohesive and contemporary sonic tapestry.
The album showcases Curran's mastery of the VCS3 synths and the Serge modular system, instruments that have left an indelible mark on his musical journey. "ARCHEOLOGY // ARCHEOLOGIA" is not just a nostalgic look back but a forward-thinking exploration of sound, blending the organic with the synthetic, the past with the present. It's an album that invites listeners to experience the rich layers of Alvin Curran's artistic vision, offering a unique perspective on his enduring influence in experimental music.
