About Eyvind Alnæs

Eyvind Alnæs, born in Fredrikstad in 1872, was a prolific Norwegian composer, pianist, organist, and choir director, renowned for his contributions to the romantic music tradition. Throughout his career, Alnæs composed two symphonies, a piano concerto, numerous choral works, piano pieces, organ preludes, and nearly 100 romantic songs, or "romancer," which remain some of his most beloved works. His musical journey took him from studies in Oslo, Leipzig, and Berlin to prominent positions as an organist in Drammen and later in Oslo, where he significantly influenced Norwegian church music. Alnæs was also a founding member of the Norwegian Composers Association and co-authored the influential "Norsk pianoskole." His legacy endures through his extensive body of work, which continues to captivate audiences with its lyrical beauty and emotional depth.
